So, you want to buy the Battle Pass or that new legendary weapon skin in Call of Duty: Mobile, but you don't have a standard bank card?
The M-PESA GlobalPay Virtual VISA card is the perfect workaround.
It links directly to your M-PESA balance but acts like a standard VISA card for international online payments.
Here is your step-by-step guide to setting it up and securing those COD Points (CP).
Before you start, ensure you have:
- The M-PESA App installed on your phone.
- Enough Airtime/Data to ensure the transaction doesn't time out.
- Sufficient Funds in M-PESA to cover the CP cost plus the 3.5% forex fee (more on this below).
Step 1: Activate Your M-PESA GlobalPay Card
If you haven't activated the card yet, you need to do this first to get your card details.
- Open the M-PESA App.
- Tap on the Grow tab (bottom navigation bar).
- Select GlobalPay.
- Follow the prompts to opt-in. You will be asked to pick a card color (this is just cosmetic).
- Once active, you will see a virtual VISA card on your screen.
Step 2: Get Your Card Details
For security, M-PESA hides your full card details until you need them.
- Tap "Show Card Details" under the card image.
- Enter your M-PESA PIN.
- Copy the 16-digit Card Number, Expiry Date, and the CVV (the 3-digit security code).
⚠️ Crucial Note: The CVV is only valid for 30 minutes. If you take too long to paste it into the game/store, you will need to generate a new one by repeating this step.
Step 3: Link the Card to Google Play Store
Since Call of Duty: Mobile runs on Android, the smoothest way to buy CP is by adding this card to your Google account.
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile icon (top right).
- Go to Payments & subscriptions > Payment methods.
- Tap Add credit or debit card.
- Paste the Card Number, Expiry, and CVV you got from the M-PESA App.
- Save the card.
Step 4: Buy Your CP
Now you are ready to buy.
- Open Call of Duty: Mobile.
- Tap the CP icon or the Store button.
- Select the amount of CP you want to buy.
- When the Google Play pop-up appears, ensure your VISA •••• (M-PESA Card) is selected.
- Tap 1-Tap Buy (or verify with your fingerprint/password).
- You will receive an M-PESA SMS confirming the deduction, and your CP will be added instantly.
You need to be aware of the fees so your transaction doesn't fail due to "insufficient funds."
- Forex Fee: Safaricom charges a 3.5% markup on international transactions.
- Example: If 80 CP costs KSh 110, do not just have KSh 110 in your M-PESA. Have at least KSh 120 to cover the markup and exchange rate fluctuations.
While the Virtual Card is great, there is often a cheaper way that lets you skip the 3.5% forex fee: Codashop or Carry1st.
These are official Activision partners that support direct Lipa na M-PESA.
- Go to the Codashop Kenya website.
- Enter your CODM Player ID (found in your profile in-game).
- Select the CP amount.
- Choose M-PESA (Paybill) as the payment method.
- This often works out cheaper than using the Virtual Card because you avoid the international transaction fee!
